Let's welcome Anna to the hot seat. She's here to talk about her new book.
What kind of research did you do for Evangeline’s Power Trio?
I’ve personally dealt with some of the topics and struggles in this story, but one special character, Jerry Wynn, made me do some extra research. Jerry Wynn is an MMA Champion and being a fan definitely wasn’t enough to get into the head of the complex character. I had his backstory, but I joined a boxing and MMA gym for two months and learned about the two sports from the people who actually compete. I learned some of the different ways boxers and MMA competitors train, had a wonderful time getting to know and learn from some of the men and women at the training facility, and got to watch a couple of the younger boxers put their training to the test in the local boxing competitions. With the new knowledge I learned, I feel as though I incorporated a good bit of reality into Jerry’s fictional life, and I had a blast doing it.
What did you do when you received your first Acceptance Letter?
It’s been some years since then, but I will never forget that moment. I was in Memphis, Tennessee, in a holding room for potential jurors when I got the email asking to contract my very first story - The Horse List. I called my husband and he and the kids shouted, “Congratulations.” After I got off the phone, I turned to the lady next to me and told her. She hugged me and congratulated me, and soon I had a small gathering of total strangers making that special moment one I will never forget.
Besides reading, what are some of your hobbies?
I do love to read, but I also like to exercise, crotchet (mostly in the winter), and play with and take care of my three incredible dogs—Evelyn, Rachel and Marcus. They make every day just a little bit better.
We all need a little inspiration in our lives. What’s your favorite quote and why?
I don’t really have a favorite quote. What I do have for inspiration is more of an actionable sentence. Every day try to make someone or more than one someone feel special. Often times I find people talking a lot about supporting and loving others, but it’s just that—talk. Inspiration, for me, is something that makes a person take action to make the world a better place. I may not always succeed, but I do try.
Any advice for the aspiring authors out there? Particularly those who are feeling a little discouraged?
My advice is to grow a thick skin, but not too thick that criticism doesn’t still hurt. Find someone who understands story development to read your writing. Find professionals who want you to develop your voice, not turn your story into their story. Find readers in the genre you write and ask for their opinions and listen to them—and thank them for their time and opinions. Ask yourself if their reaction to your characters and circumstances were what you wanted as a writer. If they weren’t, ask why? What would I change to get the reaction I wanted? Then implement those changes. Be fearless—I’m still working on that one. Most of all, don’t give up.

One. Two. Three men. Yes. Yes. Yes…
At the top of her game as a prestigious attorney, Evangeline Zanipolo walked away from it all. Despite an obvious lack of skill, she tries her hand as a massage therapist. But professional success is not her goal. All she wants is love, marriage, and babies with the two men she's engaged to marry. Then both men dump her, and she's left questioning her life's decisions. Just when she's ready to throw in the towel and try a traditional relationship, three forever-bachelors walk into her life prepared to give her everything she's ever dreamed of...if they can iron out all the kinks.
Sexy
businessman Brice Loffiten has always kept his lovers at arm's length, but
Evangeline has snuck past his barriers and secured her spot inside his heart.
He wants her all to himself, but her insatiable desires have him doubting he'll
be enough.
Power
attorney, Dylan Russo is back in town and ready to assert control—in the
bedroom. But Evangeline might not be ready to surrender to his type of
dominance.
Champion Jerry Wynn needs to be number one in a relationship.
With him at the helm, the four could conquer anything. But can the other men in
Evangeline's life accept him as the head of the household?
Excerpt:
He gazed into
her empty house. No furniture. No lamps. He leaned forward and peered further
inside. "I'm jumping to conclusions, but—"
"Yes. I
wasn't exaggerating last night. They literally took everything. A friend
dropped off my laptop and office files this morning. Henry and Todd can have
the rest. I'm not suing or wasting any more time on them."
She swallowed
as she lowered her gaze. "I didn't see it coming. But I understand why it
happened." Shaking her head, she seemed lost in her thoughts. "I'm
not going to make the same mistakes again. I'm only dating a man who will
support me, attend family functions, and love my friends. If they have a
problem with my career choices, they're gone. If…" She rattled off an
exhaustive list of "ifs," and he paid attention to every detail.
"…and if
he doesn't like my excessively poochie belly, he's out the door."
He gazed at
her torso. You don't have a pooch. Who
has destroyed your image of yourself? "You've got curves where women
should have curves. You're beautiful, Evangeline." I want to see and touch every gorgeous inch of you. I want to get my
mouth on your—
"You're
just saying that." She rolled her eyes at him and seemed defeated.
He cupped her
face and bent over until they were nose-to-nose. "I have the luxury of
being able to tell the truth. I look at you and my thoughts aren't
innocent."
