#BookReview – ‘Mate of the Werewolf’ by JS Scott

Blurb

Grace Marin was a veterinarian with a mission. She needed to raise and keep enough funds for her wildlife sanctuary. When she meets her biggest donor at a fundraiser...her world is turned upside down. After a passionate and wild encounter in a bathroom...he drops a bomb. He's a wolf changeling and she is his mate. Unless she agrees to his terms and mates with him...he will pull her funding. The proof of his claim becomes indisputable, but Grace is torn. She is drawn to him...but can't give in to his blackmail. He's a dominating alpha with an attitude and she's a stubborn woman. But her wildlife refuge means everything to her. Can these two destined mates negotiate terms that will satisfy them both?

Review

In the first book of the Changelings Encounters series, Grace Marin attends a high society fundraising event to raise money for her animal sanctuary. She never expected to meet her biggest benefactor in person and that he would spirit her off to the bathroom for mind-blowing sex.
Werewolf Noah Lancaster can smell his mate in the crowded ballroom, and he’s driven by an overpowering desire to claim her for his own. But Grace is hesitant. In order to force her compliance, he threatens to pull the funding she desperately needs for her animals, and his alpha attitude drives a wedge between them.
I liked both Grace and Noah for the most part, but his blackmailing scheme was just cruel. They have great sexual chemistry and fell into insta-love. I wish this short story had been longer to further develop the characters and the world in which they live, but I still enjoyed it.

#BookReview – ‘The Billionaire’s Obsession’ by JS Scott

Blurb

Down-on-her-luck nursing student and full-time waitress Kara Foster gets a massive blow to her already desperate financial situation that will surely find her living on the streets. Needing nothing less than a miracle to save her, Kara gets rescue from an unknown, unlikely, and overwhelming source. Billionaire Simon Hudson makes her an offer that is impossible to refuse, but terrifying to accept from a man that she's never met. Will the handsome, alpha billionaire really be a solution to her problems? Or will he end up being a major complication and a danger to her emotional sanity?

Reclusive billionaire Simon Hudson would rather be behind a computer creating computer games than rubbing elbows with the elite and he knows exactly what he wants...until he meets Kara Foster. Something about Kara touches Simon in ways he's never experienced and definitely doesn't like. For over a year, Simon watches over Kara, but stubbornly refuses to admit his desire to possess her, not even to himself. But when she ends up in a situation that could very well be her destruction, Simon steps up to help her, not realizing that in saving Kara, he might very well be salvaging his own soul.

Review

Though originally released as a four-part serial, this book collects all the novellas—Mine for Tonight, Mine for Now, Mine Forever, and Mine Completely—in one complete set.
After the death of her parents, Kara Foster has lived her life working as a waitress and going to medical school. She’s exhausted, running herself ragged, and too busy for relationships. After her tiring lifestyle finally catches up with her, she finds herself in a stranger’s bed and evicted from her apartment.
Simon Hudson has a genius IQ and is the creator of several popular computer games, and he co-owns a billion-dollar company with his brother Sam. Women only want him for his money, so he keeps his heart safe around a block of ice. He’s watched over Kara from afar for the past year, and he doesn’t understand his obsession with her. He’s never even approached her, even though she works at his mother’s restaurant. As he’s following her home from work one day, she almost collapses on the sidewalk, and he swoops in and takes her home with him. He thinks one night in her arms will be enough to rid him of his obsession, but Kara changes everything for him.
I love this couple! Kara and Simon fit perfectly together. She’s independent, smart, and so understanding, and she’s determined to become somebody through her own strength of will. She’s had a hard life, so has Simon, and she doesn’t need money to be happy. Simon definitely has some trust and psychological issues, and he’s been hurt so much that his dominant caveman attitude is totally understandable. The pain of his past controls his life, but he begins to heal through Kara’s love and acceptance.
The story kept my interest, but the characters’ emotions and wants were often repeated which slowed the pacing a little. The sex scenes were really hot, explicit, and long. There were some typos, but not many. All loose ends were tied up, but I wish Simon would’ve explained to Kara about the little misunderstanding at his birthday party, instead of his brother explaining it for him. Simon should’ve at least apologized, and I was disappointed that he didn’t.
Anyway, it’s a great book. I love the world building and would like to read more from this series.

#BookReview – ‘Ethan’s Mate’ by JS Scott

Blurb

Ethan Hale is a vampire with a mission. Together with his three brothers and a few other unmated members, he fights with The Vampire Coalition to protect humans from fallen vampires. His life is fairly simple. If he has a problem...he solves it. If it's an evil problem...he kills it. But his uncomplicated life is about to end when his mate unexpectedly calls him to her.

Brianna Cole is weak, her life force fading away. She thinks she is suffering from a rare form of leukemia. Little does she knows that her illness is much more complicated. She's dying because she has not united with her vampire mate and given him his soul that she has been guarding since birth.

Ethan finds Brianna and knows he needs to convince her to mate or watch her die. He's waited for her for five hundred years and he has no intention of letting her go, but she is not in any shape for the dominate, volatile mating ceremony with a vampire. He will have to win the race against time to strengthen Brianna and a battle with a stalking fallen to claim his mate. He is also at war with his mating instincts that make him burn to dominate and conquer her. But Ethan is determined, and the stubborn vampire will do whatever is necessary to possess his soul bonded mate...forever.

Review

In the first book in The Vampire Coalition series, 500 year old vampire Ethan Hale has been waiting for his mate, the human woman who houses his soul in her body. If he doesn’t find her before she turns thirty year old, she’ll die, and he’ll lose her forever. But the only way a vampire can find his mate is if she psychically calls out to him.
Brianna Cole is dying from a rare blood disease at 28 years old. Though she calls out to a stranger in her dreams, begging him for help, she never expected to wake up and find that gorgeous stranger in her apartment. She’s not afraid of Ethan or what he represents, but deep down, she knows she should be.
Brianna is a strong woman, especially given all she’s been through. Ethan is desperate for the mate and the happily ever after he never thought he would be lucky enough to find. Their love bloomed fast, and she accepted the “vampire world” very easily, which seemed a little unbelievable, but it fit well for this fast-paced story.
There were a few typos and head hopping, but otherwise the writing flowed smoothly. The sex scenes were soooo hot. I definitely plan to check out more of Ms. Scott’s books.

#BookReview – ‘Three Times the Scandal’ by Madelynne Ellis

Blurb

Engaged at her parent’s behest to a man she despises, Fortuna Allenthorpe abandons duty and flees into the night with notorious rakehell, Giles Dovecote. Too bad her betrothed is more interested in her impressive inheritance than her errant virtue. What’s more, he’s prepared to destroy her family to ensure he gets what he wants.

A vocal advocate of free love, Giles isn’t looking for a wife, but Fortuna makes him want things he considers off limits. As the stakes mount, how long can he hold fast to his principles, if they mean surrendering the woman he loves to a hellish match?

Review

This is a very sexy historical erotic romance set in 1801 London. Though it’s book 4 in the Scandalous Seductions series, it’s a standalone with characters from the previous books.
Giles Dovecote believes in women’s rights and the freedom to love and have sex with anyone a man or a woman would want. He scorns marriage due to a tragic mistake on his part years back.
Fortuna Allenthorpe longs for adventure, but her parents are forcing her into a loveless marriage to Sir Hector, a boorish man with a hidden agenda. She’s desperate and willing to do anything to get out of the engagement, even ruin her reputation. When she absconds with Giles and his two sexy friends, Lord Darleston and his twin brother Neddy, the fun really begins.
Fortuna and Giles are very likable characters. Giles and his friends quickly introduce Fortuna to a passion she never imagined possible. Though she experienced one wild coupling to another man during a Halloween celebration in the previous book, she finally grasps the whole concept of sharing partners, having wonderful sex, and learning various ways to make love.
Robert, Lord Darleston, is the mysterious, moody, quiet lover who would rather watch than participate. He’s bisexual, his desires are darker than Giles’s and Neddy’s, and he leans more toward men. I would’ve liked to know more about his past and his relationship with his horrible wife, but I understand all that will be explained in book 5 which is Darleston’s story (I sooooo want to read that one!).
Neddy Darleston is the more fun, carefree lover. He casually goes from woman to woman, and he becomes Fortuna’s friend and confidante throughout her wild week with the sinful trio.
Giles doesn’t mind sharing to a degree, but his free-thinking ways are put to the test when his emotions get involved. His steadfast beliefs cause a major conflict in the story. After a while, Giles’s stubbornness became tiresome and repetitive (though in his mind he was doing the right thing, so it’s understandable).
The sexual kinks include: oral, anal penetration, spanking, multiple partners (M/F/M, F/M/M/M).
The book could use an edit to add in some missing commas and periods, and to change single quotation marks to double. The story is told in third person with properly alternating POVs between Fortuna, Giles, Lord Darleston, and Neddy. The main plot and all the sub-plots were well thought out, but sometimes the narrative was a little hard to follow. Still, I really enjoyed the book and want to read more in the series.

#BookReview – ‘His Human Slave’ by Renee Rose

Blurb

Collared and caged, his human slave awaits her training.

Zander, the alien warrior prince intent on recovering his planet, needs a mate. While he would never choose a human of his own accord, his physician's gene-matching program selected Lamira's DNA as the best possible match with his own. Now he must teach the beautiful slave to yield to his will, accept his discipline and learn to serve him as her one true master.

Lamira has hidden her claircognizance from the Ocretions, as aberrant traits in human slaves are punished by death. When she's bought by a Zandian prince for breeding and kept by his side at all times, she finds it increasingly harder to hide. His humiliating punishments and dominance awake a powerful lust in her, which he tracks with a monitoring device on her arousal rate. But when she begins to care for the huge, demanding alien, she must choose between preserving her own life and revealing her secret to save his.

Review

In book one of the Zandian Masters series, Prince Zander only wants to build an army and retake his planet from the evil Finn, but his council demands he produce offspring before he starts a war. Years earlier, the Finn had massacred Zander’s people, including his parents, and took over the planet. Only a few hundred Zandians are still alive. As the youngest surviving member of his species, he’s the best candidate to produce healthy children, so the council chooses the best compatible female for him—a human slave girl.
Lamira and her mother work on a farm and do their best to steer clear of the guards and masters that oversee them. They have a secret that could get them killed, and Lamira will do everything she can to protect that secret. After she’s bought and sent to Zander as his sex slave and breeder, she soon learns pleasure and pain at the hands of her new master.
I couldn’t really connect with either Lamira or Zander.
Lamira was strong and proud at first, but became subservient very fast. After she lost her virginity to rape, she started craving sex. She had a serious case of Stockholm syndrome and easily forgave her master no matter how horrible the beatings because she believed he cared about her. Though the abuse both humiliated and hurt her, it also aroused her, so most beatings ended in sex.
Zander did care for Lamira, but he didn’t trust her and would often lock her in a small cage. His reasoning behind some of the abuse made sense (this is a master/slave romance, after all), but his anger and lack of compassion for someone he’d supposedly grown to love was shocking.
There are tons of sex scenes and most of them were pretty hot. Some, however, were just too violent for my tastes. I’m usually a big fan of erotic BDSM stories, but not those with non-consensual acts.
There are some minor punctuation errors, but I enjoyed Ms. Rose’s writing style and voice. Overall, the plot is exciting and intriguing, but the degradation was just too much for me.

#BookReview – ‘Too Far Gone’ by KC Stewart

Blurb

Tired of her horrific past continually being dredged up and broadcast all over, Sadie James leaves her hometown to start over. But her new Adirondack home has secrets and dangers that change everything for her.

Wolf shifter, Tyson Cartwright is mourning the life he once knew. His past haunts him as he reluctantly relinquishes his human side. But when, newcomer Sadie James comes face-to-face with Tyson's most vile enemy, he vows to protect her--no matter the cost. As Tyson and Sadie grow closer, he struggles to keep her safe while battling his own demons. Suddenly, he must choose between saving Sadie and ultimately destroying her. Can he fight the pull of the wild or is he too far gone to save the one woman he's destined to love?

Review

In book one of the Adirondack Pack series, Sadie James is suffering from PTSD after a traumatizing event a year earlier and has just moved to a small mountain town in upstate New York for a fresh start. While exploring the woods around her new cabin, she stumbles upon a snarling, drooling wolf and fears that her life is finally over. Instead of attacking her, the wolf attacks another wolf, saving Sadie, and then follows her home. Sadie begins to think of the wolf, which she named Fred, as her pet, but still fears him a little since he’s a wild animal.
Tyson Cartwright was once the pack enforcer but gave up his pack after a personal tragedy. Now he runs wild in the forest in his wolf form and suspects he’s falling deep into madness, but then his human side starts to reemerge as he finds a new purpose in living with Sadie. Unfortunately, Tyson is not the only wolf who wants her. He’s determined to protect her but fears he will hurt her himself.
I really liked Sadie and Tyson. They’re both emotionally damaged from past experiences and found a kindred spirit in each other. Sadie and Tyson (as Fred) became good friends, but she didn’t find out Fred was really a shifter until the very end of the book. Because of that, there wasn’t much romance and no sex scenes in this story. Their story continues in another book, however, and I’m sure that story will show them falling in love.
I enjoyed the pack dynamics and how the wolves interacted with the humans in their town. There are great secondary characters, like Lee, Owen, and Vince, and I’d like to know more about them.
This shifter story is a little different from what I’m used to reading. It’s separated into three main parts with individual chapters. Part one is mostly in Sadie’s POV and sometimes in the villain’s. Part two is in Tyson’s POV and shows everything that’s already happened in part one, but from the hero’s perspective. Part three takes place where both the other parts end and is in both the H/h’s POV.
Though I enjoyed this story, there are some typos that led to confusion at times. There are also unanswered questions, but those will probably be taken care of in the next book. Anyway, the overall plot is solid and the characters well rounded and likable.
3.5 Stars

BELLA.jpg

Bella Jeanisse lives for rock music. Addicted to concerts, Avenged Sevenfold, fictional rockers, and blasting music in the car, she can’t get enough. After her father turned her on to Queen, there was no going back. Of course, it didn’t stop there. Playing guitar became a pastime, which didn’t turn into a career… until she started to pen her fantasies and publish them.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York City, she grew up with access to clubs like L’Amour and CBGBs, hung out in Greenwich Village, as well as had plenty of friends in bands. No wonder rockers stayed on her mind. Bringing her ideas to life was a long time coming.

She is now living near Tampa, FL with 3 kids and 2 grandkids, as a single mom. Her family supports her writing even when it seems to take up more time than they feel is necessary. Can’t stop the muse, ya know!

Besides erotic rock star romances, Bella also writes about wild bikers, hot college men and more.
