#CharacterInterview - "Charm Me Again" by Tena Stetler

Let's welcome the hero from Charm Me Again. Thanks so much for stopping by and chatting with me.

What’s your name?
Daylan Rylie

What do you look like?
Tall, dark, muscular, and handsome. Every woman’s dream. I’m joking more like every woman’s nightmare.

What time period does your story take place?
Current time, mostly.

What’s your goal in this story?
Originally it was to reunite my family and find out why the heck I’m being haunted by a Seventeen-century Scottish Highland Ghost. Then a devastating curse comes to light.

What conflicts are you facing?
Trying to get my sister to forgive me, reunite my family because I’m the one who caused the split. Trying to show Joise I can be more than just a screwup.

What is your occupation?
Blacksmith, Bladesmith

Are you any good at it?
Yes. It is an ancient craft passed down through the generations. Though I had no idea the ramifications that came with the skills and the tools. Do you like it? I love it.

What skill do you have that you’re proud of?
I’m a powerful warlock and blacksmith. Why? Wielding magic well is a talent my family is known for, at least I didn’t let them down in that arena.

What did you think the first time you saw Josie?
She blew me away. Absolutely beautiful, but more than that, she is feisty, says what she thinks and is confident or fearless. The fearless seems to get her into trouble at every turn. Which is why I am ordered to keep her safe.

What is your family like?
Dysfunctional due to my terrible luck with women.

What's the most terrible thing that ever happened to you?
Watch a woman I thought I loved try to drain me dry while a family member had to make the choice to destroy her.

What was your dream growing up?
Always wanted to be a blacksmith. Working with my hands to create something so beautiful yet so deadly. Did you achieve that dream? Yep. If so, in what ways was it not what you expected? Apparently, the tools of the trade passed down to me without the story of origin, which caused serious problems in my personal and professional life.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
Believe in yourself.

What is people’s first impression of you?
Arrogant, trouble maker. But I learned some serious lessons in Charm Me Again, and am a better person for it.

Do you see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
After what I’ve been through, morality is black-and-white. The shades of gray get you into trouble.

What’s your quirkiest habit?
Talking to my creations. You know swords, knives, etc.

If you could go back in time, what one thing would you change in your life?
I never would have gotten involved with the vampire.

Why do you think your author chose to write about you?
She originally wrote a valentine short story about my sister. Because my author is long winded, she always knew there would be a sequel to Charm Me and it would include Summer’s ne’er-do-well brother and their dysfunctional family dynamics. Then she threw Josie into the mix. I am so glad she did.

What do you wish your author had not told others about you?
What happened with the Vampire.

What other character from your book do you think your author should write a book about?
Josie’s friend and co-worker Mandy. Care to tell us why? Mandy is a sweet dependable girl with a fantastic boyfriend. She ended up working while the rest of us battled evil and had no idea what was happening. Mandy should be enlightened. LOL

Daylan, a warlock, is being haunted, but what the ghost wants is a mystery. His magical powers bring him no closer to an answer—until he encounters Josie, a Yoga instructor.

But when she is kidnapped by an ancient Fae Warrior set on revenge Daylan must rescue her before the rogue claims her as his own. During his quest, his world spirals out of control, and a devastating curse comes to light. Could the ghost hold the answers he needs?

Can he break the age-old curse to save Josie and their future, or will Daylan lose her forever?

Excerpt

Without warning, Shay and his Fae warriors materialized beside the group. An eyebrow raised, he nodded. “We’ll take it from here.”

“Not with Josie inside,” he protested.

A loud boom shook the ground and the side wall of the building collapsed. Purple smoke billowed up and Shay cursed. “Get him. Don’t let him get away.” The warriors rushed forward toward the building. A column of the purple haze rose upward and spread across the sky dimming to lilac. Shay and the warriors disappeared with the haze after one of their own.

Josie stumbled out coughing and choking. Daylan rushed to her side as she collapsed in his arms holding her hands out, palms up. The group formed a circle around them as he eased her to the ground.

Summer’s eyes widened as she pointed to the subtle orange glow rising from Josie’s palms. “I believe her latent magic must have saved her.”
