#PreOrder - "Moonlight Kisses & MugShots" by Lorelei Confer

Blurb

Veronica (Ronnie) Travis, Miami policewoman, now a Saddle Creek, WY Sheriff’s Deputy and
the new owner of Travis B&B, thanks to her Aunt Sally, who leads her on a scavenger hunt to
discover her illegal activities.
Sheriff Mitch Rogers, a permanent non-paying guest at Travis B&B is convinced the late owner
of the B&B had secrets; big ones. And hopes to find out what it is from his new deputy, Ronnie,
if he can only keep it professional between them.
After Rosie’s Diner becomes a crime scene with an ensuing investigation, Ronnie has to sacrifice
everything she’s come to love and treasure, but is Mitch included? Or is Ronnie leading Mitch
on a wild goose chase just like her Aunt Sally?

The premise for Saddle creek series:

Four male friends since childhood grow up in the small town of Saddle Creek, WY, located in the shadows of the Grand Tetons Mountain range. They consider themselves brothers from another mother; share and help each other through the growing pains of adulting after high school and remain loyal to each other throughout; one goes to college, another buys the horse ranch he’s worked/lived on since a young age, one joins the military, and the fourth becomes the local Sheriff.
Moonlight Kisses and Mug Shots is the fourth in the series, the story of Sheriff Mitch Rogers and his new Deputy Veronica “Ronnie” Travis, who is also the new owner of Travis B&B located in Saddle Creek and where the Sheriff resides. And how or why did Ronnie from Miami, Florida become the owner of the B&B in Saddle Creek, WY? This book will be released August 25, 2020.

Excerpt

Ronnie headed out to get familiar with the area. The roads were wet but clear of snow, so she took her time and enjoyed the scenery. She found an indoor shooting range just outside the town limits. Since she wanted to be sharp and on her toes in case the sheriff tested her skills, she parked, grabbed her gear bag from the trunk, and went inside.
The range was relatively small, only six booths, three occupied by men. She found the area, the second on the right assigned to her, but the man in the first one caught her eye. Dropping her bag on the shelf, she back stepped a few paces and gave him the once-over, admiring him from top to bottom. After all, who wouldn’t? Certainly, not a normal hot-blooded woman like me. She loved how his snug jeans cupped a firm butt.
Tall, dark, and handsome. His light-blue denim shirt tugged tight across his back as his muscles bulged when he pulled the trigger. When he looked her way, she quickly averted her eyes but not before she glimpsed his handsome face and thick dark-brown hair. No way did she want to get caught staring at the hottest man she’d seen in some time.
Back in her booth, she placed her loaded weapon on the small shelf. Safety goggles were next and, of course, earplugs. When she pushed a button on the wall to her right, the target sped out about fifty feet.
It appeared she and Mr. Handsome were the only two remaining shooters. She swallowed, established her stance, and lifted her gun. Nice and easy, she thought, as she steadied her arm and took aim. After six quick shots, she brought the target in, removed the empty magazine, and placed it on the shelf to be reloaded. She quickly put her gun on the shelf and studied the target: six perfect bull’s-eyes. Excited at the results, she jumped, and then quickly covered her mouth before a squeal escaped. She hadn’t lost her excellent sharpshooter skills after all, despite not practicing for a few weeks while packing and making arrangements for the move.
“That’s some pretty good shooting,” a deep voice, smooth as butter with a slight huskiness, came from over her right shoulder. She swiveled her body sideways where Mr. Handsome stood close to her. His body heat radiated in the small area, sending sparks throughout her body. She licked her suddenly dry lips and ran a finger across her upper lip, wiping off the few tiny droplets of sweat that had accumulated. He was about a foot or more taller than her, and her eyes traveled up his muscled chest to where a navy T-shirt peaked out underneath at his throat. When her eyes met his, she inhaled. They were a beautiful dark brown with golden flecks. An instant jolt coursed through her body, and a chill ran down her spine. She stared at him until he cleared his throat.
Turning, she took a step closer to the target. “Thank you.”

#PreOrder #GuestPost - "Middle Ageish" by Shirley Goldberg

How Much of Middle Ageish is True?

Many thanks to Amber Daulton for hosting me on her lovely blog.

I’m a newbie author, so squeaky new my book isn’t even out yet. Ten more days to go. August 26 is the release date.

So why a book about a woman who starts over, moves from Paris, France to New Haven, CT, goes back to school, and online dates?

My friends asked the same question. Since the book’s heroine, Sunny Chanel, is online dating, they sneak in a few questions when we’re enjoying a virtual happy hour. “How much is autobiographical?” “Was that a true story about the 300-pound man Sunny dated?” “Did you really go on six meets in one week?”

Sure, there’s a bit of me in Middle Ageish, but making fiction, and turning experience into a belly laugh is much more fun than humans should have. And I’m having the time of my life, pumping my checkered past for “copy” as Nora Ephron (or was it her mother?) calls everything that’s story material. From a trip to Walmart where an old guy mistakes your shopping cart for his (Subtract twenty years and turn that into a Meet Cute scene?) to an online meet with a guy who’s got the sort of beard that catches in his zipper, my mind clicks and grinds, always on the chase for a story.

And, yes, I used to hide my pocket journal in my overlarge (for a date) handbag and scribble notes in the ladies’ room midway through a date. Isn’t that why someone invented that cliché, the devil’s in the details? I sat through dozens of first-meets where guys talked about themselves for forty-five minutes straight and never asked me any questions, or somehow thought I’d be googly-eyed with mirth at their date-from-hell stories.

So when I wrote about Sunny sneaking off to the restroom to jot down thoughts during her dates, well, yes, I did do that. Sometimes, I’d even call a friend for advice. From the toilet, I’m admitting it. Let’s call him Peter, and say he’s got world-class experience in the dating department. He’s real and he’s on my website.

And I still have that little packed-with-memories journal.

Shirley Goldberg
Middle Ageish/Romantic Women’s Fiction

Middle Ageish Blurb

Sunny Chanel's marriage is circling the drain when her husband marks his colonoscopy on the calendar and ignores their anniversary. With divorce papers instead of roses on the horizon, she says "au revoir" Paris and croissants, and "hello" cheap New Haven apartment and ramen noodles.
Encouraged by her friends, Sunny jumps into online dating, twenty-three years and twenty pounds after her last date. To her surprise she discovers dating might require a helmet, and occasionally armor to protect her heart, but after years of being ignored, her adventurous side craves fun and conversation. She's middle-aged not dead. Then suddenly, on the way to reinventing herself, life takes a left turn when the one man she can't forget calls with an unexpected request.

Excerpt from Middle Ageish

I slouched at my computer and peered at the screen. The letsclick.com dating site was becoming my best friend.

The first email in the lineup was from Luke. Soulmate Guy, I called him, because he was the first who’d talked about the soulmate thing—even though there were 7,000 other guys online clamoring for a soulmate.

Cute, too, with Jeff Bridges hair. Jeff still had hair, didn’t he?

A popcorn sound startled me––newbie dater that I was––and a cartoon bubble appeared on the screen with Luke’s image. Would you like to chat with Luke?

Well, that was a dumb question. I hit the yes button. Yes, yes I would. Chat was the site’s version of texting and this was my first time.

—Luke: Hey, got a few minutes? This messaging is friendlier than old school emails. How goes it? Back from vacation. Went to the island. So different there in the winter. Beautiful in a different way. Just came home from doing a little bar dancing. I stayed about an hour. Every once in a while, I do that on a tense night. This was my tense night.

—Sunny: Tense, shmense. What’s wrong?

—Luke: One of those old girlfriend things. We have a lot in common—biking, riding, skiing, and some total madness thrown in, but she doesn’t give me space. It’s complicated.

— Sunny: What’s with the old girlfriend thing? If you’ll be so kind as to be my dating mentor, I have a question. Dating mentor, is it wise to redate old girl/boy friends?

—Luke: Absolutely not, are you nuts? My prob is I don’t like being alone. I like sharing things with someone.

—Sunny: So what is it you look for in a woman? Really, I’m not fooling around here.

—Luke: I know you’re not. I’m taking your question seriously. Well, I’m past craving the 30 year olds with zero body fat and total flawless skin. That is a truly good thing since I’m 54 and they wouldn’t want me anyhow. But our bodies are important, the only one we have, so I can’t pretend I don’t care about the shape a woman is in. I like smiles, legs, arms, necks. You get the picture. Oh, can’t forget that erotic zone called the mind. That’s most of it.

—Sunny: Wow!

—Luke: I can’t stand it anymore. I’m signing off here so I can call you. Give me your phone number. Please. Now—

#PreOrder - "Root Brew Float" by Sydney Winward

Blurb:

Josephine Brevil has lived hundreds of years haunted by the horrors she experienced during the Salem Witch Trials. She takes great care to hide her powers, though serving a Root Brew Float laced with a magic potion now and again never hurt anybody. The Order sends her to Massachusetts to deal with a paranormal threat, and she meets the young and handsome widower, Clarence Watts. However, being with him comes with a choice. How can she choose between the man she loves and the magic she holds dear?

Excerpt:

“There’s a reason we’re inside the circle. Nothing can touch us in here. Now close your eyes and listen to my voice.” She paused for a moment to take a deep breath, channeling the magic swirling within her core. “Clarence Watts, our task here is to send your deceased wife into the afterlife, beyond the door and into the next realm. If you have done as I previously instructed, you have gotten rid of many of Heidi’s earthly belongings, which is a crucial step to letting her go. Now, imagine a rope that connects you to Heidi. Cut it and sever the tie.”

“It can’t be that simple.”

“It’s not. It’s symbolic of freeing her, but the act of letting go is another story altogether.”

“I’m not sure how I’m supposed to let her go.”

“Cling onto something else you care about. It usually helps.”

His hands tightened around hers. She cracked her eyes open, her heart racing as she stared at their conjoined hands. The word home echoed in her mind again, and when she tried to push it away, it slammed back into her stronger than before.

Home is with the Order, she insisted.

Yet, her pounding heart didn’t believe her.

#GuestPost #PreOrder - "Necessary Risk" by Jennifer Lowery

Hello fans and readers! I’m so happy to be here! Thank you Amber Daulton for having me today! I’m excited to share news about the preorder and release of the 4th book in my Wolff Securities series. Woot!

This series has been the most difficult I’ve ever had to write. Those Wolff brothers are very closed-mouthed and didn’t like talking to me most of the time, lol. Talk about pulling teeth! But, once I got into their stories and started figuring out why they were so quiet I found them to be quite intense. And, it wasn’t just the brothers who intrigued me. It was the entire Wolff family. You’ll find many points-of-view in this series, from the heroes and heroines to the parents. I fell in love with the brothers and brothers-in-arms theme. With a son and son-in-law in the Army this series touched an extra-special part of my heart. I hope you will enjoy reading their journeys as much as I did writing it.

Now on to the good stuff! The book! As I said before, this is the 4th book in the series and features Chris Wolff and Layla Scott. They had quite a time on the high seas! Please keep reading for the blurb and preorder links! The book will be delivered to your e-reader at midnight on February 27th! Yay!!

Blurb:

What was supposed to be a simple personal protection job turns private security specialist, Chris Wolff’s life upside down.

A pirate attack on the yacht owned by the woman he was hired to protect lands him and Layla in a desperate situation when they are stranded on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean.

Not only will they fight for their lives, they have to fight their attraction. Will they cross the line from professional to personal, or will their pasts get in the way of their happiness?

#PreOrder and #AuthorInterview - "Deadly Homecoming" by Lorelei Confer

Let's welcome Lorelei to the hot seat. Thanks for coming.

What kind of research did you do for Deadly Homecoming? Did you travel, use the Internet, speak with experts on a topic, etc?

I was born and raised in Pennsylvania and this location was my back yard, so I was already familiar with the area. But I’ve done extensive research on human sex trafficking using the internet as well as personal interviews. After I wrote the first book in the series, I had the opportunity to meet and interview the Lead Detective on the local Human Trafficking Task Force in 2006. As I’ve continued to expand my knowledge regarding this heinous crime, I’ve added a message to each book I write. In Deadly Homecoming, I introduce Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) and the necessity for community awareness.

Are your characters based on anyone you know?

No, not at all.

Do any of your characters take over and write the book themselves sometimes?

Who? Many times, the villain takes over when I write their point of view; I don’t think (or hope I don’t) think that I'm malicious in everyday life.

What do you prefer: ebook or print? Why?

I’m in the middle of both right now and prefer print. The ebook seems hard to hold and not flexible. LOL

How long have you been writing?

When did you decide to become an author? I’ve been writing since the fourth grade when I wrote a story about going to the doctor for a shot. My teacher made it into a play, inviting other classes and parents to attend. I continued writing in a diary every day and then progressed to a journal. When my husband was deployed, I wrote newsy love letters to him in Viet Nam. I continue to journal and even include some of my dreams; some have been embellished enough and have become my novels.

All writers suffer from writer’s block at least once in their career.

What’s your go-to cure? I went through a really rough path when my mother passed in 2017 and couldn’t write anything of any worth until October 2018 when a friend asked me to write a minimal 15k words for an anthology. I had received the pat on the back I needed and have been back on track with four novels and one short for the anthology releasing in 2010.

Sometimes the romance genre gets a bad reputation for being cliché and full of Fabios. How do you respond to that?

And I’ve heard them called “lust books” or “dirty books” which is such an insult when there are so many emotions and feelings shown or reflected on every page. Romance needs to love and sex, not necessarily in that order, but all are a real part of life.

Any advice for the aspiring authors out there?

Particularly those who are feeling a little discouraged. Everyone needs a reason, a purpose to write. If it’s for the money you need to be tough skinned and persistent. If it’s your passion, you’re going to write and write and keep on writing to get the characters and their stories out of your head and the money, hopefully, will follow. Just keep writing.

How do you market your books? What do you find more effective?

The industry changes every five seconds it seems, so I strive to stay up to date with the changes. Newsletters worked for a while and I still see a small uptake in sales when I swap or share with another author. Facebook groups are fun, especially author’s readers pages, with fun activities. I’ve seen a small uptake in sales after a fun take-over-Friday activity, but the page needs daily posts and motivation. Social media has it’s perks and changes daily so an author has to have multi graphic media available to vary posts to all of them.

What is your favorite book? Favorite author?

My most favorite authors were the late Kathleen Woodiwiss and Johanna Lindsey. I grew up reading them and I don’t particularly care for historian romance now. Shannon by Kathleen Woodiwiss was the first book that attracted me to romance, and then I had to read every book she wrote. Then Johanna Lindsey was new to the scene; I don’t remember the name of the first book, but I’ve read them all. Now, there are so many good authors out there I can mix it up.

Blurb:

Madelyn (Maddy) returns home to arrange her mother’s funeral and has to face her biggest fear; her ex who broke her heart, but in oh so many more ways than one.
Garrett, her close childhood friend and FBI agent assigned to the human trafficking task force, gave his heart to her years ago and wants no other woman.
Does he have a second chance, or will her ex steal her from him again?

#GuestPost and #PreOrder - "A Pride of Brothers: Rick" by Peggy Jaeger

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, Peggy.
I'm anxious to learn about your latest book and why you decided to write Romantic Suspense.

A genre switch and an explanation…

So, if you know me (and I hope you do!! Heehee) you know I write basically romantic comedies and romance stories about big families. I like the light and fluffy, feel-good-feel of RomComs, and families are so precious to me since I grew up an only child in a divorced household.

With the publication by the Wild Rose Press on my newest book, A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: RICK, the first in a three book series, I’ve departed from my usual writing fare and slipped into the Romantic Suspense Lite genre.

You may ask why I’ve gone down this crooked road. Well, I’ll tell ya.

A few years back I had a trilogy published by Lyrical Press titled the WILL COOK FOR LOVE series. The books centered on a famous cheflebrity and her sisters. In the second book, A SHOT AT LOVE, I introduced a private eye/bodyguard friend of my heroine’s, by the name of Rick Bannerman. After the book was out in the romance reading world I received so many comments from readers who asked when Rick’s HEA story was going to be told. Apparently, he was a big hit with people, even though he’s only in 3 chapters, and marginally at that.

In all honesty, I hadn’t considered it.

But, like things do, an idea began to work into my head last year and the only character I could see bringing the idea to fruition was Rick. To do so adequately though, his story couldn’t be a typical boy meets girl romance. No, it had to have some element of danger in it and some way for Rick to show off all his great skills. Hence, writing a romantic suspense seemed appropriate.

Now I’ve billed this book as Romantic Suspense lite. It’s a term a writer friend of mine, Kari Lemor, coined to describe her books: a little suspense, a little mystery, and a lot of romance. I think the term fits Rick’s story perfectly.

Yes, there are bad guys – from a stalker to a killer – who are after Abby and yes, Rick goes into alpha protection and fighting mode. There are even a few murders along the way of people close to Abby. But the main core of the book is getting these two vastly different people to realize how perfect they are for the each other.

I hope I’ve whetted your reading appetites for Rick’s story. Hee hee.

Excerpt

“You’re really going to spend the night? Here?” she finally asked.
“And every other night until Genocardi is caught.”
She went stone still. “He doesn’t know where I live.”
“You can’t be sure of that. Neither can I, so...” He lifted his hands, palms up.
It was a wonder blood wasn’t seeping through her lips from the intense way she was biting down on her cheek.
“Look.” He leaned a hip against the sink, folded his arms across his chest. “I know you think there’s no worry or danger to you from this guy. But in my professional opinion—and please remember what I do for a living—you can never underestimate someone who’s gone off the deep end like this guy has. He may not be targeting you, may have forgotten all about you, but I seriously doubt it.”
She sighed, snuggled the cat closer, and buried her face in its fur.
“Josh can assign someone who’ll keep you as safe as I can. But do you really want someone you don’t know following you around all day? Possibly for several days?”
“God, no. I’d hate that.”
“Then isn’t it better I’m the one? You know me. You can trust me. You do trust me, right?”
Without hesitating, she replied, “Of course I do.”
He nodded again, relieved by her answer. He pushed off the counter, took a few steps toward her, and then reached out a hand to rub the cat’s neck as she was doing.
“I know this is hard for you,” he said, hiking his voice to be heard over Moonlight’s thunderous vocal vibrations. “Being invaded, having your privacy and your quiet life infringed upon. I’d be mad, too.”
“I’m not mad,” she said. “Just...inconvenienced.”
“Yeah, I get that. It won’t be for long, though, I’m sure. Your cop buddy will find Genocardi. As soon as the threat is gone, I’ll be out of your hair.”
She stared at him for a moment over the cat’s head. “You might want to grab my law book again, Bannerman.”
“Why?”
“Your argument’s pretty solid on all levels. Almost lawyer-worthy.”
“Now, there’s no need to be insulting, Abigail.” He pulled himself up to his full height and glared down his nose at her.
He was pleased when she laughed, since it had been his intent. “Go on and do whatever you need to do. I’ve got stuff to do as well,” he told her.
With one final glance at him, she moved from the kitchen, the cat still in her arms.

EXPECTING TY'S BABY © Empi Baryeh 2019

“I don’t need taking care of, you know,” Patricia said when they stepped outside. Her voice came out low, a whisper, which nonetheless projected in the still warmth of the night.
After several seconds without a response from him, she turned sideways. He stared ahead, his profile stoic. Finally, she heard his deep intake of breath.
He looked at her, and thunder might as well have struck after the flash of…annoyance? Impatience? Incredulity?
“Are you always on the defensive?”
Aggravation. Despite the balmy, breezeless air, Patricia shivered. Perhaps she should have been scared, but she wasn’t. Somehow, Ty didn’t strike her as the kind of man whose patience wore thin as easily as wind blew away flakes of cotton. Yet, she also realized she’d pushed a button or two between yesterday and today.
She began to say something, but her response staggered as she realized she didn’t know how to answer his question. She sighed. “It’s always been just me and my mum. I guess I’m simply used to having to stick up for myself.”
His look softened. “Trish, I know you’re a strong woman. Hell, it’s one of the things I admire about you. But did it occur to you I only wanted some alone time with you?”
She couldn’t help it. She giggled. “You could have just said so.”
“In that case, how about this?”
He faced her fully, subjecting her to a powerful blast of his magnetism. Electricity jolted through her, and she realized he’d touched her; warmth infused her body where his hands bracketed her waist.
The next instant, she was plastered against him, her soft abdomen privy to the state of his desire. His heated breath wafted over her face, a mix of him and the whiskey he’d had at dinner. An avalanche of sensations, fierce and unrelenting hit her in the gut.
Then the worst thing happened. The most embarrassing moment of her life.
She threw up.
On him.
For several seconds, she could only stare in horror at her dinner, now a less than palatable concoction splattered on Ty’s clothes and shoes.
He still held her as she doubled over, one hand on her shoulder, the other rubbing her back.
“Trish, what’s going on?” He pushed back a few strands of her braids hanging loose from the confines of her up do.
“I am so sorry,” she said.
“We need to get you to a hospital.”
Crap! Her stomach lurched again, and she figured out what had triggered the emesis. Thankfully, what came out the second time was minimal. She took in a deep breath, exhaling through her mouth. It seemed to help.
Ty held up the bottle of water he’d taken with him from dinner. “Here—”
“Please stop talking,” she gasped, turning away from him. “I need a minute.”
“This could be food poisoning. You need a doctor.”
“I don’t, and it’s not food poisoning. It’s the alcohol.”
“You didn’t drink.”
“No, but you did.”
His features assumed a frown, his confusion absolute. “You’re sick because I drank?”
“I’m not sick. I’m—”
She stopped abruptly, tossing different possible explanations in her head, all of them partial truths. No matter what anyone said, keeping quiet and outright lying were not the same. She wasn’t prepared to do the latter, but she’d spoilt her chances of doing the former.
“I’m…uh.”
His eyes narrowed. “You’re what?”
“I’m…”
Shiiit.
She couldn’t believe she was going to tell him. “I’m pregnant, Ty.”
