#BookReview – ‘Cooking with Kandy’ by Peggy Jaeger

Blurb

Sugar and spice and everything sexy make the perfect recipe for romance in this brand-new series by Peggy Jaeger. Look for exclusive recipes in each book!

Kandy Laine built her wildly popular food empire the old-fashioned way—starting with the basic ingredients of her grandmother’s recipes and flavoring it all with her particular brand of sweet spice. From her cookbooks to her hit TV show, Kandy is a kitchen queen—and suddenly someone is determined to poison her cup. With odd accidents and threatening messages piling up, strong-willed Kandy can’t protest when her team hires someone to keep her safe—but she can’t deny that the man for the job looks delicious. . .

Josh Keane is a private investigator, not a bodyguard. But with one eyeful of Kandy’s ebony curls and dimpled smile, he’s signing on to uncover who’s cooking up trouble for the gorgeous chef. As the attraction between them starts to simmer, it’s not easy to keep his mind on the job, but when the strange distractions turn to true danger, he’ll stop at nothing to keep Kandy safe—and show her that a future together is on the menu. . .

Review

In the first book in the Will Cook For Love series, professional chef Kandy Laine hosts an insanely popular cooking show and is the author of several bestseller cookbooks. Despite her fame, fortune, and quick rise to the top, she’s a generous and humble person, and she cares a lot for her family and the people who work for her. She’s also extremely rigid and stubborn in her over-heightened sense of responsibility in both her personal and professional life, and has drawn the ire of someone who works for her. After a few attempts on her life and threatening phone calls, Kandy’s cousin calls in help.
Private investigator Josh Keane takes the case. Though he’s attracted to Kandy from the start, he’s all business and wants to find the person threatening her. As her fulltime bodyguard, Josh and Kandy get to know one another on a personal level, both sharing some deep secrets. The lines between lust, love, and professionalism blur, and what Josh wants and needs to do are two different things. As the investigation moves forward, several possible suspects come to light, and Kandy’s carefully crafted world, her sense of self, and her resolute trust in her friends comes crashing down all around her.
Kandy and Josh are amazing, well-rounded, career-driven characters. I felt connected to both of them. The sexual chemistry between them sizzled even though they tried to keep their hands to themselves. There’s only one sex scene, but quite a few sexual starts and stops due to outside interruptions.
Kandy’s family is awesome. Her mother and aunts are wild, flirtatious, and fun—the best part of the book in my opinion. Her sisters are strong and protective.
I loved the scenes when Kandy was on the set of her show. The author must have done a ton of research in how to successfully run a TV show, and I found all that info very interesting.
The story ends with a HEA, but there are a few unanswered questions. Hopefully, they’ll be answered in book 2 of the series. I really enjoyed the author’s crisp, fun writing style. The story was fast-paced and kept my attention.
Overall, I loved this story and would like to read more in the series.
