Interview - Stacy Juba and her book 'Fooling Around with Cinderella'

Exciting news!
I'd like to welcome my fellow Glass Slipper Sister, Stacy Juba, to my blog! Stacy and I are part of a multi-author campaign to promote Cinderella-themed stories, holiday recipes and party ideas, and to meet wonderful readers who love happily ever afters as much as we do.
It's great to have you here, Stacy. Lets learn a little bit about you...

Tell us about your Cinderella book.

Fooling Around With Cinderella is about Jaine, a marketing coordinator who gets talked into filling in as Cinderella for a summer at a family theme park in the Catskills. Secretly dating her bad boy boss, running wedding errands for her ungrateful sisters, and defending herself from the park’s resident villain means Jaine needs lots more than a comfy pair of shoes to restore order in her kingdom!

What kind of research did you do?

Lots! I listened to podcast interviews with executives at well-known theme parks, watched You Tube videos with former theme park princesses giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse into what it’s like, watched job recruitment videos from various theme parks, and I also read up on the history of the Cinderella fairy tale and how it has changed over the centuries. When I visited theme parks, I was also very nosy and snooped a lot – I’d follow employees to see where they were walking, and take notes on what the employee area looked like from the outside!

Did any of your characters sometime take over and write the book themselves? Who?

Dylan, the love interest in the book, really took over. When I first started the book, I knew he was the grandson of the theme park’s founder and that he was the general manager, but as I got into the first draft it became apparent that he needed fleshing out. As I was writing, I realized he was a former ski instructor and zip line instructor who had a bad boy reputation, and got into a bit of trouble at his last job. I also realized he had a dog named Snow, his soft spot. I needed to go back and make the beginning of the book coincide with the middle of the book when it came to Dylan’s character.

All writers have suffered from writer’s block at least once in their career. What’s your go-to cure?

Meditation and exercise can be very helpful in clearing the mind and working off stress that can be interfering with creativity. When all else fails, I set a timer for 15 minutes or 30 minutes and see what I can get written in that time.

Besides writing and reading what are some of your other hobbies?

I love doing yoga and Pilates, especially yoga. While I wouldn’t call it a hobby, I am very active in the Type 1 Diabetes community as my daughter has T1D. I volunteer for JDRF from time to time, and read articles, listen to podcasts, or read posts about T1D several times per week to stay on top of all the latest developments and what’s being talked about, as I believe knowledge is power.

Author Bio

Stacy Juba got engaged at Epcot Theme Park and spent part of her honeymoon at Disneyland Paris, where she ate a burger, went on fast rides, and threw up on the train ride to the hotel. In addition to working on her new Storybook Valley chick lit/sweet romance series, Stacy has written books about ice hockey, teen psychics, U.S. flag etiquette for kids, and determined women sleuths. She has had a novel ranked as #5 in the Nook Store and #30 on the Amazon Kindle Paid List. Stacy is also the founder of the Glass Slipper Sisters, a group of authors with Cinderella-themed romance novels. When she’s not visiting theme parks with her family, (avoiding rides that spin and exotic hamburgers) or writing about them, Stacy helps authors to strengthen their manuscripts through her Crossroads Editing Service. She is currently writing the next book in the Storybook Valley Series, Prancing Around With Sleeping Beauty.
