Wolf shifter, Davis Campbell is on a mission. His job is to babysit a woman from a rival clan. He believes all he has to do is get her back to Scotland. What he doesn't figure on is her possibly being his mate.
Bethany Leitner, an owl shifter, has been betrayed, attacked, framed, and left for dead. Trust in herself and others is hard to find. So when her self-appointed guardian begins to bark orders, she is ready to show her talons.

Author Interview

What kind of research did you do for Scent of Betrayal?
I’ve been to Scotland before and I did a lot of research on local dialect, architecture, and scenery to give the book an authentic feel.

What process did you go through when you picked your characters’ names for Scent of Betrayal?
I’m afraid it’s pretty random. I tend to pick names that pop into my head. Two of my characters happen to share names with friends of my oldest son, and they’ve asked if I named the characters after them. I hated disappointing them but I wrote the characters before he became friends with them. Perhaps it was fate.

All writers suffer from writers block at least once in their career. What’s your go-to cure?
Glue myself to the desk chair and start typing! Even if I end up changing the initial words, it gets the story flowing.

We all need a little inspiration in our lives. What’s your favorite quote and why?
“Self-doubt leads to a quagmire of despair – rise above it!” I’ve had this quote in a prominent spot on my desk for more years than I care to count. I wrote it to remind myself to never give up.

Any advice for the aspiring authors out there? Particularly those who are feeling a little discouraged.
Writing and reading are subjective. You will never write a story the same way as someone else and you shouldn’t try to. Cultivate your own voice. Everyone who reads your story will have a different opinion. It doesn’t mean they are right or wrong, it’s simply their perspective. Read a review or critique as a means to improve but not as facts you have to believe and implement. When all else fails see the above quote and repeat until you believe it!

Excerpt for Scent of Betrayal

Davis snorted. “Yeah, well, the little peacemaker tried to get rid of me when I didn’t kowtow to Aaron and the advisor. I don’t think she fully realizes the precarious position she and her clan are in right now.”
“On the contrary, I am quite aware, which is why I don’t see the need to make the matter worse by antagonizing everyone around me.”
Davis slowly swiveled his head to meet Bethany’s glare. She stood in the open doorway to the bathroom with her arms wrapped tightly around her waist. Her dark gaze pinned on him. She’d changed into a blue dress. It accentuated her tiny waist, skimming just below her knees, allowing him an appreciative view of her trim legs. Her pursed lips only accentuated the pink little bow of her mouth. He couldn’t help but imagine what it might be like to grab a taste.
An amused chuckle sounded in his ear. “She doesn’t sound very happy with you, Davis. Are you sure you want to stay?”
“Yeah, I’m sure.”
