#BookReview – ‘The Billionaire’s Obsession’ by JS Scott

Blurb

Down-on-her-luck nursing student and full-time waitress Kara Foster gets a massive blow to her already desperate financial situation that will surely find her living on the streets. Needing nothing less than a miracle to save her, Kara gets rescue from an unknown, unlikely, and overwhelming source. Billionaire Simon Hudson makes her an offer that is impossible to refuse, but terrifying to accept from a man that she's never met. Will the handsome, alpha billionaire really be a solution to her problems? Or will he end up being a major complication and a danger to her emotional sanity?

Reclusive billionaire Simon Hudson would rather be behind a computer creating computer games than rubbing elbows with the elite and he knows exactly what he wants...until he meets Kara Foster. Something about Kara touches Simon in ways he's never experienced and definitely doesn't like. For over a year, Simon watches over Kara, but stubbornly refuses to admit his desire to possess her, not even to himself. But when she ends up in a situation that could very well be her destruction, Simon steps up to help her, not realizing that in saving Kara, he might very well be salvaging his own soul.

Review

Though originally released as a four-part serial, this book collects all the novellas—Mine for Tonight, Mine for Now, Mine Forever, and Mine Completely—in one complete set.
After the death of her parents, Kara Foster has lived her life working as a waitress and going to medical school. She’s exhausted, running herself ragged, and too busy for relationships. After her tiring lifestyle finally catches up with her, she finds herself in a stranger’s bed and evicted from her apartment.
Simon Hudson has a genius IQ and is the creator of several popular computer games, and he co-owns a billion-dollar company with his brother Sam. Women only want him for his money, so he keeps his heart safe around a block of ice. He’s watched over Kara from afar for the past year, and he doesn’t understand his obsession with her. He’s never even approached her, even though she works at his mother’s restaurant. As he’s following her home from work one day, she almost collapses on the sidewalk, and he swoops in and takes her home with him. He thinks one night in her arms will be enough to rid him of his obsession, but Kara changes everything for him.
I love this couple! Kara and Simon fit perfectly together. She’s independent, smart, and so understanding, and she’s determined to become somebody through her own strength of will. She’s had a hard life, so has Simon, and she doesn’t need money to be happy. Simon definitely has some trust and psychological issues, and he’s been hurt so much that his dominant caveman attitude is totally understandable. The pain of his past controls his life, but he begins to heal through Kara’s love and acceptance.
The story kept my interest, but the characters’ emotions and wants were often repeated which slowed the pacing a little. The sex scenes were really hot, explicit, and long. There were some typos, but not many. All loose ends were tied up, but I wish Simon would’ve explained to Kara about the little misunderstanding at his birthday party, instead of his brother explaining it for him. Simon should’ve at least apologized, and I was disappointed that he didn’t.
Anyway, it’s a great book. I love the world building and would like to read more from this series.
4 Stars
