After the Frost by PG Owyns
Book Description

In the Pacific Northwest of 1928, Julian Powell lives a life that for most appears to be one of privilege—a perfect life in a huge house, servants, and carefully groomed grounds. No matter how idyllic it might seem, it has become a prison for Julian. His days are filled with the endless monotony of family gatherings, gossip, and brown suits. Overshadowing him is a life-long illness. Julian finds his only freedom from his overbearing family in secretly writing books celebrating the beauty of nature. Occasionally he escapes to the local bookstore, with the hope of seeing the town’s eccentric, William Neill. Julian’s life changes forever when he makes the boldest decision of his life. He leaves to take care of an ailing childhood friend, moving to a place that will take him away from all he has ever known to an unexpected new life. He becomes part of a family of his own choosing, and it brings him closer to the man that he’s been secretly falling for—a man who has a prison of his own to escape. As William and Julian struggle to overcome their pasts, will their secrets bring them together or drive them apart?

Blog Tour - Cowgirl Crazy by Becky McGraw

 Cowboys are a different breed...
They work hard, play hard and love harder.
It's all about the ride, until the right woman
makes them fall.

Sexy cowgirl Twyla Taylor is the right woman for rodeo Romeo, bronc rider, and her and brother's best friend, Ryan Easter. He just doesn't know it yet...

COWGIRL CRAZY (#2, Cowboy Way) by Amazon Bestselling Author Becky McGraw

BLURB:

Twyla Taylor is one frustrated cowgirl. She's not winning at barrel racing or in love. She's spent ten years nursing a crush on her brother's best friend, Ryan Easter, who thinks of her as no more than his little sister. When Twyla catches Ryan with yet another no-good buckle bunny, and calls him out, he tells her to get a life, and that is exactly what she decides to do. One that does not include a buckle-bunny-chasing cowboy with a bad attitude, or an overbearing older brother.

Ryan Easter is one frustrated cowboy. He's winning every night at bronc riding, and has a different woman in every city. Mostly so he can keep his best friend's fiery little sister, and his desire for her, at bay. Since she grew those proud little breasts of hers, and mile-long legs, Ryan has had to fight his attraction to her. If her brother knew what he was thinking, he would kill Ryan, if her daddy didn't first. Ryan valued the surrogate family the Taylor's provided him with too much to ever go there with their youngest member.

His diversion techniques work like a charm, until one night he pushes her too far, and Twyla takes off. Ryan knows he has to find her quickly and apologize, or face his best friend's wrath. He finds Twyla in Dallas and decides she's definitely gone cowgirl crazy. He barely recognizes her, because his barrel-racing tomboy is wearing makeup that looks like it was put on with a putty knife and she's working at a bar which borders on a cowgirl strip club. When she isn't serving shots off of her stomach, she's shaking her round ass for any man with a dollar to shove into the waistband of her barely-there shorts.

Twyla refuses to leave with him, and Ryan knows he better make his final arrangements, or come up with another way to convince her and fast.

 EXCERPT

Ignoring her comment, and what had to be her obvious discomfort, Ryan stepped forward, leaned over her to balance his shot glass about two inches under her navel.  Heather always put it at the base of her ribcage, so a little would spill into her navel, but Ryan had put his lower.  Her muscles contracted there, as the cold glass touched her skin.  She thought about him licking her up to the glass, the amber liquid sloshed in the glass, and he frowned.

“No spilling, Twy, or there will be consequences.”  His eyes met hers and his pupils were dilated almost as large as the blue irises.  His breathing came in short spurts, and she could see his pulse pounding at the side of his throat.  The look on his handsome face said, he would relish delivering those unknown consequences.  “By the time I’m done, I’ll really need that drink.”

A shiver worked itself up her body from her toes, and the glass wobbled again.  She gasped and contracted her muscles to steady it.  Agitation bristled through her.  “Why don’t you just have the damned shot then, and get on with this?”  That’s what she really wanted.

His hand clamped on her ankle, and he grinned.  “Patience is a virtue, darlin’.  Slow is not always a bad thing, and I’m about to teach you that, and a lot more.”  His voice was heavy with anticipation, and his sensual threat was punctuated by his tongue making a trip slow around his hot lips.  Her eyes followed it around and heat sizzled along her nerves to singe her at the apex of her thighs.  Maybe this is why all those bunnies she saw leaving his trailer were smiling.  They must have had the patience Ryan was talking about, and liked that Ryan was slow as a turtle in his lovemaking.  Twyla wasn’t sold on it yet, but decided to try to find the patience he asked her to have.  She huffed a breath then relaxed and uncurled her fists.

What the hell did she know about all this, anyway?  She was green as grass at this, he knew what he was doing.  Had done it many times.  Too many.

“Get on with it, then,” she grumbled, settling her focus on keeping that shot glass steady on her lower abdomen.  Ryan’s dark head appeared in her line of vision, and Twyla gasped.

His eyes met hers over the plane of her tummy, and were filled with mischief and purpose. His hot breath tickled her thighs when he warned, “Keep it still, Twyla.  Remember, no spilling.”

He slid his hands behind her calves, and under her thighs to hold her hands at her sides.  Turning his face, he planted a wet kiss on her inner thigh, before his mouth latched there and he sucked, while his tongue swirled on her skin.  Fire zipped up to her core, and Twyla whimpered.  The glass wobbled again and she knew then that she was in big trouble.

A jack of many trades in her life, Becky has been an optician, a beautician, a legal secretary, a senior project manager for an aviation management consulting firm, which took her all over the United States, a real estate broker, and now a graphic artist, web designer and writer.  She knows just enough about a variety of topics to make her dangerous, and her romance novels interesting and varied. Becky has been an avid reader of romance novels since she was a teenager, and has been known to read up to four novels of that genre a week, much to the dismay of her husband, and the delight of e-book sellers.

Review - Love is in the Air by Sharon Kleve

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sophie Grant goes on adventures all the time since she owns a bookstore. She loves reading and prefers to experience life within the pages of books than in the real world. She heads off the Colorado Rockies due to a promise to a friend but this city girl knows nothing about hiking. Jonas Hansen is a tour guide who’s also a wildlife photographer who’s lost his love for photography. He’s a wounded character and it takes an understanding woman, a big snow storm, a little accident and his adorable dog to bring him back to life.
For Jonas and Sophie, it’s love at first sight. Their romance is believable, despite that it happened so fast, and I enjoyed watching Sophie break out of the protective little cage she created for herself and to finally live her life.
Sharon’s writing style flowed smoothly and kept me entertained. I didn’t want the story to end.
I purchased the story during a promotional period on Amazon. My review is honest and not compensated in any way.

Review - Island Bride by Danica Winters

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Amy Oliver’s life revolves around her career as a wedding planner. She’s been hurt in the past and is afraid to open herself up again. Liam Stewart is a hotel owner in New Zealand and he knows that life isn’t all about work. He sets off to teach Amy that very fact in delightful, fun ways that kept a smile on my face.
Since the story is only about 43 pages long, their romance blooms quickly but believably. I enjoyed watching Amy struggle between having fun and staying focused on what she thought was most important to her. She needed to find a middle ground and I wanted to pat her on the back once she finally did.
I love Danica’s writing style. The book flowed smoothly and I don’t think I found many typos, if any. Although the story ended a little abruptly, it didn’t take away from the beauty of the characters and the gorgeous surroundings.
Thank you to the author, Danica Winters, for providing me a copy of this book for an honest review.

Summer Reads Hop - July 17-23

What's your favorite genre to read during the summer? Christmas stories to cool down, beach stories to heat up, sweet or spicy, or everything and anything in between?

Take a look at my latest novella. It's a sweet, summer cowboy romance.

Melody Bennett’s parents trampled on her teenage romance with a drifter ten years ago. He disappeared without a word of goodbyes on the night they had planned to run away together. Since then, she cast aside her foolish notions of happily ever after and worked hard alongside the hired help to care for the majestic horses on her family’s beloved ranch. She refused to give love another chance and resigned to live her life alone.

Max Fortaine returned with a heart guarded by secrets and a sizable bank account that took blood, prayers and tears to fund. The cowboy disrupted Melody’s peaceful existence with stolen kisses and a promise for more. After a lifetime of running, mistakes and regrets, he vowed to reclaim the only woman he ever loved… if only her overprotective father didn’t stand in his way.

Review - The Empress of Ireland by Jennifer Conner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Laila Byrne is a restaurant chef who goes to Ireland for a vacation she doesn’t really want to go on. Her first night there is a nightmare. It rains, the B&B is closed down, the waitress at a local pub forgets her order and she takes out her frustration on the pub owner. Thank goodness she did or she probably wouldn’t have met Alasdair, the owner of the pub. He offers her a room and then she offers to cook for him when his chef quits the next day. Their attraction is mutual but all she wants to do is cook and all he wants to do is find a way to save his pub from going out of business. They’re both business-oriented but they soon realize what’s more important in life—living life or letting life pass you by.
Great writing, tight sentences and book structure. This book is the perfect start to a new series from three awesome BTGN authors.
I purchased this story and my review is honest and not compensated in any way.

Review - Welcome to Danjal's by Marion Webb-De Sisto

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Celia and Meresin meet in a club that caters to all sorts of creatures like lycans, fairies, angels, demons, etc, but most of the clientele are shady characters. She is a kind yet spunky part-human/part angel waitress and Meresin is a fallen angel warrior who’s angry, dark and totally hot in all black. Although they hate each other at first (Meresin’s fault for being so rude), they end up working together to bring down the bad guys and to survive in a world of cutthroats. Hatred turns into respect and respect turns into love.
It was enjoyable to watch these two characters who think they are so different from one another to realize they have a lot in common and maybe, just maybe, each other is what the other has needed for a long time.
The writing style flowed great and I found little, if any, typos. The author weaved a beautiful tale that left me wanting more.
Thank to the author, Marion Webb De Sisto, for providing me a copy of this book for an honest review.

Her kidnapping will reignite the rift that’s existed between the two clans since her father accused Morgann of theft and she doesn’t want to see her father harmed in the inevitable war that will ensue.

Unfortunately for Alana, the faeries seek to interfere with her plans to escape. The sidhe have a debt to repay and Tèile, the green faery, is determined to mend the rift between the clans for good. And that means ensuring Alana and Morgann marry.

If only he didn’t find his childhood friend so attractive. When circumstances force them together, Alana’s life is threatened and war is imminent. Can Morgann reveal the truth without losing Alana? And will the faery’s meddling help or hinder his cause?

Excerpt
(R rated)

And then that hand was upon one of her breasts, comforting and teasing at the same time. He cupped her through the linen, rolled her nipple tight. He groaned against the crook of her shoulder and teeth nipped lightly at her skin.
“Ye taste so good,” he murmured. “So good.”

Alana arched to his touch and angled her hips into him. Hardness greeted her, his plaid gone, as an ache took hold, one that could only be ended by Morgann. The scent of damp skin teased as his wet hair brushed her cheek. He pulled away suddenly, hand still clasped over her breast, fingers remaining under her hair. “I cannae do it.” His eyes were hooded, dark with lust, voice thick and emotion filled.
Alana’s heart dropped. She leaned her head back, let the air release from her chest and dropped her hands to her side.
“I cannae do it, Alana. I cannae stay away from ye. I wanted to protect ye, to be strong for ye… I dinnae think I can be strong anymore.”
Relief streamed through her. He wasn’t turning her down. She placed her palm over his heart, the thud strong, reassuring. “Dinnae be strong, Morgann. Just be ye. And kiss me.”
He gave a groan of resignation and the hand on her breast advanced around behind her, bundled her against him. Lips moved roughly over hers, claiming, seeking. He coaxed her mouth apart and the damp heat of his tongue shocked her, forced her to grip his arms tightly. Sinuously twining with her tongue, he explored every recess of her mouth as fire built between them. The throb between her thighs became more acute, almost painful. She rocked her hips into him to get some kind of relief.
Morgann pulled her away from the wall and his hands roamed her body. The linen chemise offered little protection against his probing hands as he grasped her bottom, fingers trailing briefly between her thighs and back up. Alana kept her eyes closed as he manoeuvred her around the room, mouth firmly upon hers, until finally the edge of the table bit into the back of her thighs.
Hands gliding over the planes of his chest, she opened her eyes and reclined. She’d intended to study him, to relish the sight of firm muscles and crisp hair but to see him, so gut-wrenchingly beautiful, a vulnerable glint in his eyes, forced a surge of impatient need through her.
“Kiss me again,” she begged, hooking a hand around his neck and tugging him down.
He did as she bid. His mouth moved sensuously over hers yet there was an aggression behind the kiss. A sense of him taking everything from her. But he gave back so much. His fingers pressed into her hip, massaging her flesh. She fidgeted, longing for those fingers to put an end to her agony.

Finished WIP - Arresting Calista!!!

It's a little after 7am Eastern time and I'm ready to go to bed.
Yes, I did it again. I stayed all night to write. And guess what? I just finished my latest WIP!!! It clocked in at 66,000k. I've spent around 10 months writing this story, minus the time I took off from it to write Lightning over Bennett Ranch. This book, Arresting Calista, kicked my hiney and I'm so relieved it's done.
Now I can concentrate on Mistletoe in the City, my fourth book that I've contracted with BTGN, that's part of a New Adult borderline erotic romance Christmas series. Oooh yeah, it's gonna be hawt!

New Review!

First review for Lightning over Bennett Ranch! 4 Stars!!!

Aqua - Barbie Girl

I loved this song when I was a kid. My mom hated it because she thought it was sexist. Yeah, it is, but it's also so much fun and laughingly perverted. It doesn't really promote female degradation; it makes fun of those who do it or allows it to happen.
At least that's my view on the song/video.
What's yours?
